Esta é a segunda exposição da artista na Rooster Gallery, em Nova Iorque.
Estas peças recentes são um percurso em direcção ao íntimo da artista que procura a fisicalidade para se expressar no mundo, numa permanente tentativa de posicionamento com origem numa época e num espaço alimentados por memórias. O título da exposição apela à perspectiva do visitante, que é estimulado para uma atitude de descoberta e de identificação. Conseguimos reconhecer-nos nas peças por meio dos materiais que fazem parte do nosso quotidiano, apesar do universo pessoal desenvolvido pela artista, ser ausente de qualquer lógica prevalecente.
Na sua primeira exposição individual na Rooster Gallery, em 2012, – Open Gates – Bichão apresentou blocos de cimento cobertos com pinturas e desenhos. Em Somebody’s Address, a artista mantém algum do simbolismo essencial e geométrico que caracteriza a sua obra, demarcando-se no entanto claramente dele. Bichão apresenta-nos agora construções frágeis combinando objectos criteriosamente selecionados que contêm um significado pessoal como materiais encontrados, por vezes de origem industrial. A cor transmite sensações e ritmo às peças por meio de combinações cromáticas específicas que sugerem uma tensão primária fantasiosa, adquirindo deste modo vida própria. A linha é outro tema recorrente nestas novas peças, organizando o ritmo e marcando os limites da obra no espaço.
A artista reconstrói os objectos que utiliza como suportes abertos nos quais desenha gradualmente o metabolismo específico que reconhece neles.
Somebody’s Address reúne uma série de elementos que são agora redirecionados pela sua própria natureza como pistas para o mundo.

This is Sara Bichão’s second solo exhibition in New York.
This recent body of work is a route to the artist’s internal state that searches for physicality in order to express itself in the world, in a constant positioning attempt, originating in a time and a space fueled by memories. The title of the show appeals to the viewer’s perspective who is stimulated towards an attitude of discovery and identification. One will be able to recognize himself in the works due to the everyday matter, despite the artist’s developed personal universe which withdraws from any prevailing logic.
In her first solo exhibition at Rooster Gallery in 2012 – “Open Gates” – Bichão presented concrete blocks covered with painting and drawing. In “Somebody’s Address,” the artist retains some of the essential and geometric symbolism that characterizes her work yet makes a clear departure from it. Bichão now presents fragile constructions by coupling handpicked objects that bear a personal meaning with found materials, sometimes of an industrial nature. Color provides feeling and rhythm to the works via characteristic chromatic combinations suggesting a fanciful primary tension, thus acquiring a life of its own. The line is another recurrent theme in these new works, organizing the rhythm and marking the limits of the works in space.
The artist rebuilds the objects that she uses as open supports on which she gradually draws the particular metabolism that she recognizes on them.
“Somebody’s Address” gathers a group of elements which are now redirected by their own nature as leads to the world.
Sara Bichão (b. 1986) lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal, and is represented in exclusivety in New York by Rooster Gallery. In 2011, she completed a Master in Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon and in 2012 she was an artist-inresidence at Residency Unlimited, New York. + bio
