Desde a sua criação, em 1985, o projecto New Photography já apresentou mais de 80 artistas, de 17 países.

A partir de diferentes pontos de vista, os artistas desta exposição reflectem sobre os convencionalismos existentes, à volta desta expressão, entre os quais, o de que a fotografia é apenas um meio de representação. Analisam vários processos de trabalho, exploram a proliferação de imagens, num mundo saturado de informação, e discutem qual fronteira entre a fotografia e as outras disciplinas artísticas. E, como este é um meio dinâmico, que se altera rapidamente, é lançada a seguinte questão: o que significa fazer fotografia no século XXI?

Estes cinco artistas possuem diferentes estéticas e métodos de trabalho. Collier e Crosher fazem fotografia a partir de outras fotografias. As fotografias de estúdio de Abeles e Shahbazi são resultado de processos de montagem e manipulação, entre muitos outros aspectos. No entanto, estas diferenças revelam uma estratégia comum, são abordagens diferentes para assuntos que se relacionam.
